Petrópolis vs. Teresópolis (3 days)

Please—Read the Whole Thing.

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL HIKE IN BRAZIL

Approximately 30 km long, the Petrópolis–Teresópolis Trail is considered one of the most beautiful trails in Brazil. The hike takes 3 days, with two overnight stays—we’ll camp at Açú and stay at a shelter at Sino.

The hike crosses the Serra dos Órgãos National Park, in the heart of the Atlantic Forest, along trails that wind through valleys, fields, ascents, and descents. Along the way, as you follow the mountain ridge, you can see peaks and rock formations that gradually come into view as you hike, such as Castelo do Açu, at an elevation of 2,246 m, Garrafão, Pico do Dedo de Deus, Escalavrado, and Pedra do Sino—the region’s highest point at 2,271 meters—offering participants breathtaking views!

At night, we'll gaze at the twinkling stars and nebulae far from the city's light pollution, making the crossing an unforgettable experience!

SCRIPT

Day 1:

At the meeting point, there will be an introduction to the team, detailed explanations of the itinerary, and a Q&A session.
The hike begins at 7:00 a.m., heading to Açu Castle, where we’ll spend the night in tents, since the Açu shelter is closed for overnight stays. The most strenuous part is
the section known as “Isabeloca,” which is just before reaching Açu. On this stretch, the trail is very steep and exhausting, especially when carrying a heavy backpack. Along the
route, we’ll pass by Pedra do Queijo, Ajax, Isabeloca, and Chapadão.

Day 2 (May 19):
Wake up at 5:00 a.m. (optional) to watch the sunrise.
Our hike to Shelter 4 at Pedra do Sino will start very early so we can fully enjoy each viewpoint and have extra time to rest. We’ll spend the night at
Shelter. Along the way, we’ll pass by several peaks, lookout points, hills, rivers, and waterfalls. This second day will be tiring and likely the most beautiful of the trek, as
it involves approximately 7 to 9 hours of hiking, during which we’ll have a spectacular view of all the mountains in the park. When there is fog (which is very common), the
hike takes a little longer, as it becomes difficult to see the trail (please note that our guides are professionals and know the entire trek very well).

Day 3 (May 20):
If you’re willing to wake up early, a great option is to watch the sunrise at Pedra do Sino. In that case, we’ll wake up at 4:45 a.m. and then hike for 30
minutes to Pedra do Sino. After breakfast, we’ll begin the descent from Pedra do Sino toward Teresópolis. This hike is long but not as steep
as the others, and going downhill makes everything easier. The hike takes approximately 6 hours to reach the dam, where the trek ends. On this day, we’ll pass through a
stunning trail, with the added bonus of an EXTRA PEAK for the group and the famous Véu da Noiva waterfall. Upon arriving in Teresópolis, a shuttle will be
waiting to take us back to Rio de Janeiro.
