BLACK NEEDLES PEAK

At an elevation of 2,787 meters above sea level, Pico das Agulhas Negras is one of Brazil's tallest mountains and also one of its most beautiful.

Its summit is reached after about a 4-hour hike over rocky terrain through bromeliads, epiphytes, and ground cover, requiring a good level of physical fitness.

It’s constantly cold, and in the winter the temperature easily drops below 0, and it even snows. A challenging trail with natural obstacles. Use a rope to help with the ascent and descent.

From the summit of Agulhas Negras, you can see three states:
Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Minas Gerais.

 

– Departure Time: 2:00 a.m.
– Meeting Point: Afonso Pena Square – Next to the Military Police booth (Tijuca)

– Estimated Arrival Time: 10:00 p.m. – Afonso Pena Square – Next to the Military Police booth

Note: After we leave the meeting point, we always stop at a convenient location so that participants can get coffee, use the restroom, etc. We’ll do the same on the way back.

WHAT TO PACK

• A backpack large enough to hold your belongings
• 2.0 liters of beverages—sports drinks, water, juice
• Cereal bars, cookies, sandwiches
• Hiking Shoes
• Winter Clothing (Parkas, Anoraks, Fleece)
• Sunglasses, hat, or cap
• Insect repellent and sunscreen
• Gloves and Balaclava (Beanie)
• First Aid Kit (Individual)

• Change of Clothes (leave in the car)

If you want to hike, you'll hike. We don't cancel hikes because of rain—especially since there's equipment available for hiking in these conditions. And if a trail has any obstacles that put participants at risk, our team is trained to handle such situations, and we can switch to a different trail. Here, if you want to hike, you'll hike.
